"Play is often talked about as if were a relief from serious learning. Our staff highly value the process of children learning through play and having consistent, quality adult and child interactions throughout the day. Part-time teachers are often undergraduate or graduate students at UW Madison or Edgewood College looking to expand their formal education with hands on experiences with young children. Our Core Teachers have at minimum a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. Young two year olds enjoy a ratio of six children to one teacher. Our one year old rooms have a maximum group size of four with one teacher. Our infant rooms group sizes are 3 children with one teacher or 6 children with two teachers. VA Kids Center is licensed for twenty-eight children and provides families with low teacher to child ratios. VAKC is open to the public however, tuition discounts and wait list preference are given to VA Hospital staff and other federal employees. The VA Kids Center (VAKC) is devoted to providing a nurturing and caring early education experience for all of the children in our center. Our staff is highly qualified and enjoy giving children a lifelong love of learning and discovery! The VA Kids Center is licensed by the State of Wisconsin and meets or exceeds all federal regulations for VA Child Care Centers. Adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, we are open year round to all members of the community. Since 1996, we have been providing high-quality early care and education to children ages 6 weeks to 4 years. The VA Kids Center is one of two federal non-profit child care centers in Wisconsin we are located just steps from the VA and UW Hospitals in Madison, Wisconsin.
